Dear Mom,

I arrived here in Texas on Wednesday 15 about 7:30 p.m. We had better meals than we had at Ft. Thomas (Ky) and it seems like a pretty nice place but still it's not so hot.

We were assigned to our barracks today, Thursday, and we had to sweep the walk and carry cases of soft drinks and we peeled potatoes and cut them. Don't worry if I don't write often because we have very very little time off and I'm just getting settled now. It was raining here when we went to bed Wednesday and it rained a little today but it's still plenty warm and sandy down here. They say it goes as high as 130 degrees down here but I don't know, it's not quite that warm now.

They also call this place Wake Island because it's so deserted. Well, I guess that's all now. Please write. I'm in the Chemical Warfare.
